As If I Wasn’t a Big Enough Nerd Already!
As most of you know I have quite a few hobbies that I love dearly. It started as a child collecting every sort of trading card you could think of, stamps, Sugar Creek Gang books, international coins, U.S. pennies dating from the early 1800’s, buffalo nickels, quarters, and two dollar bills, lizards, scorpions, ant farms, G.I. Joes, and white ankle socks (you can never have enough). Now I’ve matured and I love Reading and collecting Books, listening, playing, and dissecting Music, obsessing over my blog, discussing Lost theories with Ryan, and color coordinating the shirts in my closet.
Well, Aidan just had a birthday and he’s always loved fish. I mean the kid has probably watched “Finding Nemo” 100 times. I guess he gets the OCD honestly. So one of the gifts he got this year was a 45-gallon salt-water aquarium. Jewel said that it was as much a present for me as it was for him, that’s neither here nor there. So where does the nerdiness come in to play you ask? I’ve probably done 30+ hrs of research on the intricacies of this hobby, and I’m still finding that I don’t know enough. I’ve joined Reef forums and clubs, I go to the local pet stores and discuss levels of PH and Alkalinity, Salinity, Ammonia, etc. And then another observation is that I’ve found that I run into other Aquarium nerds that love to talk about their “Salt Water Aquariums.” I’m wondering what it’s going to be next year. Maybe a rock collection . . . Oh-I-already-did-that-one, but I think Sean “fools gold” Pope did as well.
Anyways, I really don’t mind being a nerd as long as Aidan is getting enjoyment out of it. He wakes up and goes to the tank to watch his Clownfish named “Clark Kent” his two blue leg hermit crabs who shall remain nameless, and his blue/green reef Chromis named Marlin. He tells them goodnight, and he told me that he wants to be a Marine Biologist when he grows up and have an aquarium as big as our apartment so that he can have a Whale Shark. I told him “that would be awesome!” Peace Fellow Nerds!

Did he really say the words “marine biologist?”
Speaking of discussing LOST with me… (I know it has been a white since it has been on) but we need to talk some LOST. I’m having withdraws.
I saw you called me tonight but I was in a movie. I saw the movie “Sunshine.” Holy crap it was freaking incredible. If you haven’t heard of it, it is by the same guy who did 28 Days later. (Danny Boyle) Today was the only day it came to Houston, and it was a free private showing Nigel! Check this sweet trailer out. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/sunshine/extendedtrailer/
He said when he goes up he wanted to work with fish and whale sharks. So I asked if he wanted to be a Marine Biologist and he said yes. Now he did say that he wanted an aquarium the size of our apartment and that he wanted to put a whale shark in it. I don’t even know where he’s heard of whale sharks. It’s funny the things that come out of his mouth. When we went to the zoo last month, he saw a flyer about the animals in the zoo and said, “I want to see the Mere cats.” I looked at the flyer and sure enough they had them there. I guess playing cds of the encyclopedia at night while he goes to bed is working.
Call me man and we’ll Lost it up. I haven’t heard of this movie but the trailer was pretty cool.
Pretty cool? I don’t know if we can be friends anymore.
Sorry dude. It looked really good. I just can’t give my thumbs up until I’ve seen it. However, I can’t think of a movie that you’ve suggested that I haven’t liked.
Josh…please, let’s keep my home-made vids on the DL. Sunshine was actually released everywhere friday so you should go see it.
…obsessing over my blog…
Then why don’t we see more posts?
Easy tiger! Obsessing over the stats of my blog for one. I love to write, but with the new job and everything else . . . it’s just a little more difficult these days. I’ll work a little harder to get more than one a month out. What do you want me to write about? Any requests?
Drew we all know you whip circles around us and out blogs. No need to make comments about it unless backed by some sort of humor.
*our* blogs
It was an honest question. He said “I obsess over my blog”, and the evidence at hand did not support that statement.
…the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen…I don’t know. I miss you guys! Books, O’Charleys, guitar, ping-pong drum. HA!
I have no idea what you are talking about.
