Once upon a time there was an ant named James. (Now keep in mind that an ant’s life is not very long, but especially for the ant called James… so this short story that you’re about to read is not very long.)
James was such a hard worker, and when other ants were hurting and couldn’t work he would take over for them. If you were to ask any ant what they thought about James, they would say, “he’s a little different, but so nice.” The funny thing about James’ life was that it was a secret in so many ways. So many acts of kindness went unseen, but he didn’t mind. In fact he acted oblivious as to what he was doing sometimes. Then one day as he was working, a big rock came flying out of the sky and landed right on his back. It didn’t kill him, but he was in so much pain that he wished it had. (Killed him that is.)
James was suffering and very few ants even knew. Oh well, “it will get better he thought…I’ll heal soon enough.” “Things do go wrong, but when you do so much good it’s bound to come back to you”…but soon enough did not come, and things got worse for James. Other ants had some words of encouragement for him, and some were very concerned, but what could they do?
The Fall came and James had a limp, but he could still work. Others would watch James to see how he was doing, and every once in a while another ant would come along and give him a hand with what he was doing. He was very grateful, but he didn’t want to be a bother to the other ants that had there own problems.
Well, the days where getting darker now, and one day a bird came along. James was very scared, and he thought the bird was going peck his eyes out and eat him, but the bird started to speak instead. He said, “James, I am here to take you to a place… a place where you won’t have to worry about your limp or your pain any more.” Hesitantly, James climbed on the back of the bird and they flew away.
As he flew, he waved to his friends. They were all happy for him that he had a chance for a new life without pain. They would miss him, but they knew that it was best. As the bird got close to the final destination, a gust of wind hit them and James went flying through the air and landed on a pile of rocks. (Poor James.) At least his suffering was over.
I guess I was trying my hand at a Tim Burton style of writing. Don’t tell me if it was crap.

I won’t tell you it was crap, but I had no clue that ants could talk. Which ant told you this emotional and inspiring story?
Have you no imagination Jared?
